Dolph Ziggler vs Miz
****1/2

October 9, 2016
Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, CA
WWE No Mercy
Intercontinental Championship; Dolph’s career on the line

I attended this show live and can personally attest to how it blew the roof off the brand new Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, even way in the upper deck where fans were going bonkers the entire latter half of the match.

The layout was really well done, with tons of teases for what looked like could be the finish. The Spirit Squad involved for a couple spots that added to the drama, and fans reacted big because they knew the stakes were high. WWE had sent word that Dolph Ziggler would be on SmackDown two days later celebrating his career, which made many people believe he really was retiring. But either it was a swerve or they changed their minds, because Ziggler won the title and fans went absolutely bananas for the pin.

Ziggler carried the match but it was undoubtedly the best match and performance of Miz’s career. He sold it great and the cameras got a closeup of him almost in tears, which led to “You were crying” chants on SmackDown later that week.

This should’ve closed out the No Mercy show, but instead they put Randy Orton vs Bray Wyatt on last and that was a flat match. The original main event, which featured AJ Styles vs Dean Ambrose vs John Cena in a 3-way for the WWE title, was moved to the opening match slot in order to avoid going head to head with the second Presidential debate airing at the same time. That match, by the way, deserves to be on this list.

This match is only available on the WWE Network, but here’s a clip:
