Kazuchika Okada vs Naomichi Marufuji
October 10, 2016
Sumo Hall in Tokyo, Japan
NJPW King of Pro Wrestling
IWGP Heavyweight Championship
Wow, this was a near 5-star classic and probably the best match of Q4 so far. Naomichi Marufuji, from NOAH, dominated most of the match and really got in some devastating near falls in the last five minutes or so. He looked tremendous in this main event and showed he belongs in the discussion of who the top wrestlers in Japan are.
Kazuchika Okada took a pounding, but it was a well worked pounding and not the near paralysis pounding Kenny Omega took in the prior match. He took a piledriver on the apron and several knees to the face (one of which he sold perfectly as if he was knocked out legit). Heat really cranked up in the final minutes and really this could’ve been given five stars and nobody would’ve argued it. Okada is quite the prototypical big match performer who has come through all year. He and Omega will be under a lot of pressure to outdo themselves at the Dome in January.
