Kota Ibushi vs Cody Rhodes
January 4, 2018
Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan
NJPW WrestleKingdom 12
Make no mistake, Cody Rhodes is going to be a big star with WWE when he eventually returns there. Leaving was the best thing he ever did. In the old days, guys learned their craft for years in territories before making it big, which is something that doesn’t always happen today when guys like Cody are rushed to the big stage too soon. He’s finding himself now, and getting better with each appearance he does with New Japan and ROH.
Throw in the beautiful Brandi Rhodes, and they have a great main event act. Cody has bleached his hair blond to where he resembles his father a lot more, except he’s got abs. And he finally ditched those ridiculous white boots that were so distracting. He’s almost there. He never, ever had charisma like this in WWE.
His psychology and work here were excellent, and as good as he was, Kota Ibushi was even better. Cody did his Crossroads from the apron to the floor, which looked brutal and Ibushi sold it like he was almost paralyzed. In actuality, Cody took a harder bump on that one if you watch how they both landed. Fantastic stuff, this was great from bell to bell.
