NJPW Best of the Super Juniors Finals
The finals of the 2017 Best of the Super Juniors went out with a bang, climaxing in an absolute classic battle between deserving winner Kushida and rising star Will Ospreay that exceeded the high expectations everyone had.
What made this match great, and set it apart from the qualifying matches before it, was the variety of styles they threw in. There was the slow start, the hot moves, and spots that meant something special (such as Ospreay’s RKO tribute to Randy Orton and his fast quick kicks tribute to, am Toshiaki Kawadaong others). They all “got their shit in” as well, with perfect timing and solid crowd heat.
Jim Ross and Josh Barnett did an admirable job calling the match for AXS, putting over the athleticism and importance of the tournament. Ospreay threw in some swear words that the crowd jeered him for, although at times it added to the intensity of the match towards the end. Loved the punch to the neck that Kushida did, which was timed perfectly and really made an impact psychologically. Pretty much a must-see.
