Shinsuke Nakamura vs Sami Zayn
April 1, 2016
Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, TX
NXT Takeover: Dallas
This was the best match over WrestleMania weekend, a remarkable debut for Nakamura and sendoff for Sami Zayn to the main roster. Fans were amped to see Nakamura in a WWE ring, and the crowd heat here was off the charts. Neither man was booed, and both were cheered though it was pretty obvious Nakamura wasn’t going to lose. Still, they traded spectacular near falls and this probably blew away WWE fans who had never seen Nakamura before.
He got a bloody nose, but it wasn’t gushing and the ref was able to wipe most of it off. Nakamura didn’t do as many high risk moves as he did in New Japan, but he didn’t have to, and he should be saving those big bumps for the main roster anyway. But he was able to properly carry himself as a superstar for the American audience in a way no other Japanese star ever has, and that’s far more important. Zayn did a lot, and he was a key in making this match as good and as memorable as it was.
Few who saw this live will ever forget it, and it opened up a lot of people’s eyes about the legend that is Nakamura. A legend that will grow with time, as soon as WWE wises up and gets him out of NXT and onto the main roster. This match is worth subscribing to the WWE Network, so if you haven’t yet, what are you waiting for. Here are highlights:
