Suwama vs Kento Miyahara
October 9, 2017
Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan
AJPW Raising an Army Memorial Services (Day 4)
AJPW Triple Crown
Best match of Q4 right here. If you remember the glory days of All Japan Pro Wrestling in the early and mid 1990s, this was every bit as good as most of the seemingly weekly classics that promotion used to churn out.
Kento Miyahara is an incredible babyface, so damn good and belongs in discussions of who the best wrestlers in Japan are. Of course, you rarely hear his name brought up because Dave Meltzer is too busy covering UFC to be bothered covering a WRESTLING promotion for the WRESTLING Observer Newsletter he runs. It’s really a shame, as All Japan has been picking up major steam this year, both in the ring and at the box office, and it’s criminally under reported.
Suwama was stiff with his offense, which only made Miyahara get over more as a face and the crowd was loud and boisterous in that classic Korakuen Hall heat we’ve heard through out television sets for decades. The fire in his comebacks, especially towards the end, was picture perfect and the match clicked exactly as it should have, if not better.
With so many great matches out there, it’s hard to pick and choose which ones to watch. If you’re looking for something different than the usual WWE, New Japan, and indie fare, give this All Japan classic a watch and you won’t be disappointed. Just be sure to set aside half an hour, although trust me that it won’t feel that long.
