Will Ospreay vs Marty Scurll vs Kushida vs Hiromu Takahashi
January 4, 2018
Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan
NJPW WrestleKingdom 12
IWGP Jr Heavyweight Championship
Take four of the best cruiserweights in the world, put them on the New Japan version of WrestleMania, and you know all of them are going to go all out to steal the show.
While they didn’t steal the show (Kenny Omega vs Chris Jericho delivered), they made as good of an attempt as possible. The pacing here was frantic; almost too frantic. What made this so memorable were things like Will Ospreay moonsaulting off the lighting rig from a ridiculous height, and two flying sunset flips over the top rope by Hiromu Takahashi that actually hit their target when the recipients took the bump. The latter move needs to be retired permanently because someone, some day, is going to split his head open.
Everything you’d expect, and more. Kushida may be the best of them all, and Marty Scurll is getting there. The other two are up there as well. So much talent inside the ring, it would be impossible to have anything but a ****+ match.
